Minor Authority
Punk Side Up!
Release Date: 6/3/2009
DN: What is the theme or special message behind "Punk Side Up?"
MA: It's basically old school punk rock messages told by a new generation. What inspired the album was the fact that punk has become really "watered down". The prettyboy punks with their hot topic outfits, fake messages, crappy third rate wannabe punk music, petty obsessions, and their mama's hard earned money in their pocket. That's not what punk about dummy! It's about standing up against authority, questioning the ordinary life we're forced to lead by the governments oppression, and having the balls to speak out when no one else will. And that this album is based around. Old school, or no school. Yeah. Git some.
DN: Does Minor Authority have any future projects lined up?
MA: The new album is an exiting project we've taken up. I can't give it away, but I'll tell you that it's a bit darker subject line than this last album. It'll be as good or better than the first. Other than that, finding a new drummer and getting our asses on a bigger label haha.
DN: How was creating "Punk Side Up" in the studio? Enjoyable?
MA: Pretty fuckin' cool if you ask me. The album was recorded over a span of two years with my good friend and musical wizard Ian P. Gilchrist, our friend Jim Messina on drums, and Jonny Barber aka "The Only Elvis You'll Ever Need" with his song "Liberty Bell" as well. It's an honer to work with these dudes, I hope the experience with the next record will be as awesome as what we did with "Punk Side Up".
DN: Hectic? Cool Stories?
MA: Um, yes actually. So it's Minor Authority's first gig with the older lineup at our old drummers' house right, and it was the first night I met Daniel (Oi) before he joined the band on bass. Anyway, there was a lot of celebrating going on so we were all pretty smashed. I'm surprised we even made it through the set haha. After a while I drank to much and puked on Daniel's best friend's now ex girlfriend and some other stupid shit. I felt bad at first, but she turned into a bitch so it's all good haha. After a while they decided to drag me to the bathroom and let me blow some chunks. I punch two people while they were getting me up, and then gave up. While waiting in line punched a painting. Yes, a painting haha. The only reason why is because I thought it was giving me a dirty look. Yep, good times. But we're better now, we've grown up haha.
